A garden designers attempt to show how to make your home's front yard and exterior reflect your unique personality. Photos help illustrate different elements used to make a house a "home". Don't let yourself be limited to that expanse of lawn and tired foundation plantings. Give yourself a welcome when you approach your home and give others the treat of wondering "who lives there?".

What is Curb Appeal?
“Why do we love certain houses, and why do they seem to love us? It is the warmth of our individual hearts reflected in our surroundings.” T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings
Curb appeal is that special something about a house that grabs you before you even step into the door. It is the sum of all the unique details used by the home owner to express a "welcome home" to themselves and those who pass on the street.
This home owner uses yellow paint to create a feeling of warmth. A curving flagstone path flanked by flowers directs one to the entry.
The cottage style of the home is enhanced by rustic shutters, window boxes, benches, and lush plantings.
The "starfish" are a perfect touch for this beach cottage in Carmel-by-the Sea.

Hi Linda
ReplyDeleteLove this little yellow cottage! Carmel-by-the-Sea is on my travel "wish list" & looking through your wonderful flickr photos makes me want to visit all the more :-)
I LOVE this cute little house - wonderful colors.
ReplyDeleteI have been planning a Curb Appeal post as soon as school is out. There are several streets in town with homes from the 20s, 30s and 40s that are just so charming. I just haven't had the time to get over to take pics.
Now I have to read through and look at some of your other great photos.
